- Sumatra Mandheling

An Indonesian coffee completely individual from its Java relative, this vry full yet extremely smooth coffee is easily one of the market's best selling blends. From its exotic origin, Sumatra is deep and dark and sings a symphony of lush fruity notes, smokey tones, and syrupy pitches, all heightened by a floral soprano, rounded by a soft caramel-like bass. It's low in acidity, and high in character.

Price: $11.95 per lb.

tasting notes
"In the aroma deep-toned with moist earth and fruit tones that suggest molassy fruitcake or banana bread or a fruity dark chocolate. The candied fruit, molasses and moist earth complex carries into the cup, riding richly over a slight flatness introduced by decaffeination. Sweet, long, rich finish, very slightly astringent when hot but impressively smooth as the cup cools."

Notes from Origin
"

Beans from Sumatra have always been highly prized not only because of their full flavor, but also because of their distinct appearance. Sumatran coffee beans, when green, are often asymmetrical in shape and have a deep aquamarine tint. Beginning in the 18th Century when the popularity of Sumatran coffee rose significantly, the unique shape and hue helped European merchants recognize authentic Sumatran coffee beans."

Customers are Saying

"I didn't think I liked bold or strong coffee but boy was I wrong... I love this coffee in the morning to wake me up. It has no bitter aftertaste like similar coffees. It is just wonderful."

"Strong Stuff; would recommend it, but you gotta like strong coffee. Fantastic for afternoon or after a steak & Cab dinner. I thought it had some bitterness, somewhat expected with this type of blend. Not bad."
